Our Equal Exchange Fundraiser is a great way to get your holiday shopping done easily AND support A&L. It's simple:

1. Go through the catalog (choose from Fair Trade Coffee, Chocolate and Olive Oil, Handcrafts from around the world and items like wrapping paper) and decide what you want to purchase for friends and family.

2. Fill out the order form and return it to your child's teacher or the PTA mailbox by December 2nd.  Write your checks out to A&L PTA!

3. Your items will come home with your child before winter vacation!

A&L Holiday Market: Save the Date

Join us for a bit of holiday shopping, craft activities, a bite to eat and some musical entertainment. There will be dozens of Brooklyn-based artisans selling their wares- hand-crafted jewelry, clothing, accessories, books, food and more. Plenty of activities for the kids- from ornament making to a snowball toss. And the A&L Cafe (see below), supporting our Middle School students, will be open from 12 to 4.

A&L Holiday Market: CAFÉ!

Dec 12, 11:00AM - 5:00PM

The Café at this year’s Holiday Market will raise funds to aid our middle schoolers travel to Frost Valley (6th grade), Boston (7th grade), and Washington D.C. (8th grade). We need any and all donations of food, drinks, desserts, snacks, paper goods, disposable utensils, sterno racks and burners, crock pots, and more! We also need  your help on the day of the market itself! You can help out for one-hour shifts that include set-up, food service, and clean-up. Immunization Exclusion Deadline

Dec 4

Friday is the deadline for proof of required immunizations to be returned to the main office. Families who owe these forms were contacted during student led conferences and students are primarily in grades 1, 5, and 6. Policy states that students who do not return forms by Friday will not be permitted to attend class until they are in!

Coat Drive

A&L is having a coat drive to help families in need.  Bring any unwanted winter coats to the 3rd floor -- there will be a box for them in the hallway.

Day Of Service Success!

Thanks to all who helped organize A&L’s day of service, and to all the kids who participated!  Special shout-out to the third grade for collecting 1,200 pounds of food for their food drive, and thanks to all who donated.

Class Parents

Our list of 2015-16 Class Parents is attached below as a .pdf.  If you have not yet received communication from a class parent (except 7th grade), please reach out to your listed class parent to make sure your email address is on their contact list.

Kimtoya Williams, one of our PTA Co-President, has agreed to function as upper grade class parent until others step-up to volunteer. She will be the liaison for upper grade teachers to disseminate important information to the entire class, as well as a point of contact with the PTA. If any parent of a 6th, 7th, or 8th grader is willing to assist Kimtoya with this task – please contact her at kimtoya@yahoo.com for more information.

Inclusion Committee Meeting

December 3, 4:00-5:00PM

Next PTA Meeting Is Dec 9

Save the date -- it should be a good one!   Details to come!  In addition, the PTA is organizing childcare for the PTA meeting Wednesday 12/09/15 for grades K-5 at 6PM. $5 per student.  Drop off and pick up will be in the GYM. Pizza will be provided and we will be capping childcare at 50 students. In order to make sure that we have the right amount of caregivers and that they plan age-appropriate activities, please let us know in advance if your child will be there by filling out the information in this link:

Parent/Teacher Basketball Game!

Come one, come all!  Support basketball and Arts & Letters!  Cheer on your favorite teacher or parent in the 1st annual Parents Vs. Teachers basketball game.  December 5th from 1-4 in the gym at A&L  Bake sale, t-shirt sale, refreshments, raffle!  If you would like to donate baked goods please sign up at this link Baked Goods Donation  If you would like to join the team teachers email cjohnson@artsandlettersbklyn.org.  If you would like to join the parents team email andre_jennings@yahoo.com.  All proceeds go towards uniforms and league fees for the basketball team.   Admission is free, $10 suggested donation to play.

Wrap at Greenlight Bookstore Monday,

December 21 10:00AM - 8:30PM

Volunteers needed to wrap books and more at Greenlight Bookstore on Monday, December 21 from 10AM-8:30PM.  A&L gets all of the tips, and volunteers get 20% off of anything that they buy on the day that they volunteer.  We are setting up 1 hour shifts of 2.  You can wrap with your child, as long as at least one of you is over 18 years-old OR you can wrap with a friend and catch up while earning money for A&L and a discount for yourselves.

Order Class Pictures NOW

Class picture orders are due on Monday, December 7th. Please place your order by then to receive your pictures before the holiday break. Simply go to www.stompingroundphoto.com, select "View Your Proofs," then enter your online code (student first name+first two letters of last name, for example John Smith is johnsm). If you were absent on picture day or would like to retake your photo, you must sign up in advance on tinyurl.com/AandLRetakes15. Retake day is also December 7th. Questions? Toy Drive

A&L is participating in the annual Brooklyn Borough President's Toy Drive, benefiting underserved families in Brooklyn. A collection box will be placed in the 3rd floor hallway UNTIL DECEMBER 9th. Please consider donating a new, unwrapped gift for a child this season.

Lost And Found!

The lost and found is be in the main office, (Room 304).  However, there is also Lost & Found in the hallway outside the gym.   And individual classes often have lost & found items located outside the classrooms.  Don’t forget to check for lost items!  At the end of each marking period, they will be donated to charity to make room.

 

District 15 CEC & PS10 Panel Discussion: Talk About Testing
